Prosecutor: Bergen County pastor charged with 21 counts of sexual offenses against teen

A Bergen County pastor was charged with 21 counts of sexual offenses against a teenager.
The county prosecutor’s office says Stephen Sweet, 74, committed various acts of sexual assault with the victim when they were between the ages of 13 and 18. These incidents allegedly happened at locations in River Edge Paramus and Ridgewood.
Sweet is a pastor in River Edge. The warrant states that Sweet was known to the victim as a member of the church and had supervisory or disciplinary power over them as a result of his title.
Sweet faces a variety of charges, including aggravated sexual assault. He is being held at the Bergen County jail ahead of a court hearing.
