A boil water advisory in Passaic County has been partially lifted following a major water main break in Paterson.

The Passaic Valley Water Commission says that the advisory was lifted for customers in the areas of Broadway and all streets south of Broadway, east of Spruce Street and west of Route 20.

All other Paterson customers and customers of Manchester Utilities Authority in North Haledon and Haledon remain under the boil water advisory.

Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh says it may take another three to four days before all repairs are completed, though all customers in Paterson should currently have some water service.

The Passaic Valley Water Commission says it has successfully repressurized a 24-inch line connected to the 30-inch line that ruptured.

Haledon Mayor Michael Johnson has declared a water emergency, banning outdoor water use to help stabilize the system as lines are refilled.

Johnson says many residents, especially in higher elevations, still do not have water.

Comfort stations and water distribution sites have been set up, with support from St. Joseph’s, the Salvation Army and Rain Stone Industries.
