A proposal to take the death penalty off the books in New Jersey is getting mixed reactions from murder victims? families.
Several family members of murder victims have testified before a commission investigating the death penalty in New Jersey. After a yearlong investigation, the commission says life without parole is a better option for the Garden State. Some family members agree with that stance, despite the loss of their loved ones. However, other family members feel those who committed murder deserve the death penalty.
Meanwhile, some lawmakers are already drafting legislation to officially eliminate New Jersey?s death penalty. Other lawmakers are calling for a public vote on the issue. However, nothing official has been introduced.
