Powerful thunderstorms produce golf ball-sized hail, knock out power to thousands
Powerful thunderstorms moving through the state have produced golf ball-sized hall and knocked out power to thousands of New Jersey residents.
The storms started to move across the state Monday afternoon and are expected to last through the evening hours. They produced strong winds and heavy rain. There were some reports of trees and utility poles down, along with some road flooding.
 
Utility companies were reporting over 30,000 customers without power as of Monday evening due to the damage the storm caused.
The Hackensack Fire Department reports that at least 17 people had to be rescued when their cars became stuck on the road due to flooding. All drivers are advised to avoid roads that are covered in water because it can be difficult to determine how deep the water actually is.
Tuesday is expected to see hazy, hot and humid weather conditions with another chance of a thunderstorm late in the day. High temperatures will be in the low-80s.
Wednesday is also expected to see hot and humid conditions with thunderstorms possible by the afternoon. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-80s.
