Two men were arrested on drug charges after Fairfield police said they found a pink powdery substance known as “pink cocaine” during a traffic stop late March 31.
Officers stopped a blue Honda Accord for a traffic violation at about 10:45 p.m. on Passaic Avenue, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
While speaking with the driver and passengers - Joseph Pabon, 22, of Clifton, and Santiago Cardonavilla, 23, of Paterson - police said they saw several open containers of marijuana inside the car.
Additional officers responded to assist, and police said Pabon appeared to be sweating heavily, acting extremely energetic and moving around in the vehicle. Officers searched the car after the men were asked to step out, police said.
Authorities said officers found a bag containing about an ounce of the pink powdery substance, along with a scale and small clear baggies. Police also said that Cardonavilla had pink powder residue in his nose.
Pabon was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and having open containers of marijuana in a vehicle. He was taken to the Essex County Jail pending a court appearance, police said.
Cardonavilla was charged with being under the influence and was released pending an initial appearance in Fairfield Municipal Court.
