Many New Jersey drivers are upset at the possibility of adding tolls to the few free highways in the Garden State.
Governor Jon Corzine (D-NJ) is having consultants study the impact of adding tolls to some NJ highways. Among those highways are interstates 78, 80, 95, the Pulaski Skyway and Route 440. The governor?s administration says it needs to close the state?s budget gap and adding tolls could be one way to do it.
Many drivers feel it is going to be difficult to transform the roads for tolls. They add many of the highways weren?t designed to be toll roads. Meanwhile, the Federal Highway Administration says tolls are usually prohibited on federally funded roads.
