Authorities say police shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked a young girl and left four people hurt on a street in northern New Jersey.
Police in Bayonne said the dog attacked Friday morning and left four people with minor injuries. Police responding to the scene shot the dog.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that the dog attacked the young girl as she was getting ready to board a school bus.
Safwat Shnouda says that his young daughter sustained injuries to her head and arm that required bandages. He had to get his hand bandaged as well.
Three people including the school bus assistant, the dog's owner struggled to pull the animal off her before police arrived.
"I had to help," says neighbor Avery Jefferson. "I'm not going to let a girl get ripped apart by a dog. It's not in my heart."
The Bayonne police referred questions on the dog attack incident to the Hudson County Prosecutor's office.
