Police say a group of men are behind 26 chain snatching robberies across the city this year between June and August.
Investigators say the bandits use a moped to ride up against their victims, yank their chains off and get away.
Police say the first set of crimes happened on June 29 in the Bronx.
The first robbery happened at 11 a.m. as a 57-year-old woman was walking in front of 1272 White Plains Rd. News 12 has been told two individuals on a moped snatch the chain from the woman and took off.
Just minutes later, at 11:20 a.m. they snatched the chain of a 45-year-old woman at 1183 E Tremont Ave. The duo continued with another reported incident at 11:36 a.m. on that same day, robbing a 25-year-old woman at the intersection between Devoe Ave and E 180th St.
Over 20 heists later, police say the group has attacked people in Manhattan and the Bronx.
Police say the recent attack happened on August 21st at around 4 p.m. in front of 3377 Sedgwick Ave.
There a 27-year-old woman was approached by four unknown individuals on two different mopeds who drove up right behind her. Investigators say the woman and the bandits were in a struggle when they snatched her gold chain with a pendant on it and took off. The woman was left with visible pain to her neck and right forearm. She was treated at the scene and didn’t go to the hospital.
Police say the men carry out the attacks wearing ski masks and riding in two different mopeds, one in black and another in blue.
