Police have identified the woman who was fatally stabbed in St. Mary's Park Tuesday as 23-year-old Nimzay Aponte.
Friends say Aponte was followed to the park by a man she has been dating, who spotted her sitting on a bench with another man. That is when witnesses say the boyfriend stabbed Aponte to death and wounded her 25-year-old companion in the arm. The wounded man was taken to Lincoln Hospital in stable condition.
According to friends, Aponte and the man who accompanied her were not romantically involved, but seeing them together apparently sent the boyfriend into a jealous rage. Friends say the boyfriend threatened Aponte, a mother of two, the day before the murder.
So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
