'Door-kicking' prank trend among teens could lead to charges, police say
Police are urging parents to talk to their children about the potential dangers and consequences of kicking or striking residents' doors late at night as a prank.

Morris Plains police are warning parents about a trend involving children and teenagers kicking or striking the doors of homes late at night as a prank.
The Morris Plains Police Department urged parents and guardians to speak with their children about the incidents, saying residents may mistake the sudden noise for an attempted home invasion.
"What feels like a game to a group of friends looks entirely like a violent felony to the family on the other side of the door," the department said.
Police warned that the encounters could become dangerous if frightened homeowners believe someone is attempting to break into their homes.
The department also warned that police could investigate the incidents and identify and charge those responsible.
