Police rescue trapped dog, help contain Roxbury house fire
Officers found the homeowners' dog hiding under a table while two others climbed onto a roof and used a fire extinguisher to knock down flames, police said.

Roxbury police officers rescued a dog and helped battle a house fire Friday on Williams Street, according to the Roxbury Township Police Department.
Officers were dispatched after receiving a report of fire coming from a window. Patrolman Roumes arrived within minutes, followed by Detective Shannon and Patrolman Dixon, police said. Sgt. Barbera, Cpl. Strowbridge and Patrolmen Trieber and Smith arrived moments later.
Roumes, Trieber and Shannon entered the home and found the homeowners’ dog hiding under a table. The officers brought the dog safely outside.
At the same time, Dixon and Smith climbed onto the roof from a deck and used a fire extinguisher on a fire in a bedroom, police said. The department said their actions significantly knocked down the flames.
The Roxbury Fire Department then took over and extinguished the remaining fire.
