Newark police are searching for a man accused of following and assaulting a young woman walking home from a bus stop.
According to the Newark Police Department, a female victim was attacked around 1:30 a.m. in front of her home on Leslie Street. The incident was captured on video via a doorbell camera.
The victim told police she was returning from work when she noticed a man watching and following her. Police said the suspect came up behind her when she reached her apartment.
The suspect is described as a Black male with locs who was wearing blue shorts and a black tank top.
Neighbors in the area said they were disturbed by the incident, noting they did not recognize the suspect.
"There's only a few neighbors I really speak to a whole lot just because they're all in and out," said one resident.
Another neighbor told News 12 the incident hits close to home.
"I have children that go to school here. I live here. I come home right around the same time," she said. "I've never seen the guy before."
Police have not released additional details about the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Newark police.
