Police in Saddle Brook say a propane tank that ruptured over the weekend after it was hit by a snowplow forced more than a dozen families out of their homes, and cleared the Saddle Brook Mall on Route 46.
The incident happened Friday shortly after 8:30 p.m. when the bucket loader hit the exposed feeder neck of the underground tank.
According to police, it triggered a mass response and the evacuation of a Walmart and other stores and homes in and around the Saddle Brook Mall.
Police say the families living in the area weren't able to return to their homes until Saturday after 4 a.m. amid fears of an explosion.
Repairs on the tank were completed over the weekend.
