The grandmother of the 5-year-old child who was stabbed in Paterson is now facing charges, police say.
Police say Aurora Villacorta, 51, stabbed her granddaughter. Police responded to 92 Carroll St. shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday. Sources tell News 12 that it happened on a third-floor apartment.
The child was taken to St. Joseph's University Medical Center. Mayor Andre Sayegh says the child is now in stable condition.
"This has been a very disturbing week," says Sayegh. "One of the most violent weeks in recent memory."
Sayegh says there have been five homicides since Oct. 1. He says the fifth one happened Wednesday night. News 12 is told a victim was shot in the head.
Villacorta is charged with aggravated assault and endgangering the welfare of a child.
