At least two people have been taken into custody in connection with a shooting inside the Newport Centre Mall, but the shooter may still be at large, according to Jersey City police.
Police Chief Michael Kelly says that two people were taken into custody, but he said that they weren’t sure if one of them was the alleged shooter.
Officials say that at least two people were shot in the mall. Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop says that one person was shot in the abdomen and the other was shot in the arm. The victims were in critical, but stable condition, according to Kelly.

Police say that one of the victims was already wanted for an attempted murder in Jersey City earlier this month.
Police tell News 12 New Jersey that this was a "targeted shooting" and "part of an ongoing gang war."
The gunfire erupted around 6:15 p.m. Friday inside the Mall. Witnesses say that people started to argue in the food court and then someone started shooting.
Videos posted on social media show crowds of mall patrons running for cover. Several witnesses told News 12 New Jersey that they were sheltered in place inside of stores inside the mall.
Police say that there were reports that the shooter was out in the mall parking deck, and then inside of the movie theater inside the mall. That is when the mall was placed on full lockdown.
Mall patrons say that although they were scared, the evacuation was done in a safe and orderly fashion. No mall patrons were hurt in the evacuation or the shooting.
