Rep. Josh Gottheimer was among several members of Congress who were on a plane when another plane clipped the wing.
The congressman says he was waiting to take off on the runaway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport when the incident occurred Thursday afternoon.
“Thankfully, everyone is safe,” Gottheimer wrote on X. “Just a reminder: Recent cuts to the FAA weaken our skies and public safety.
Other members of Congress aboard the plane at the time include Rep. Nick LaLota (R-NY), Rep. Grace Meng (D-NY), Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY) and Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY).
The plane was headed to John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to a spokesperson for LaLota. The spokesperson said the other plane was heading to Charleston, South Carolina.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
