One person is dead following a house fire in Union Township.

The Union Fire Department responded around 6 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Julian Terrace, across from Franklin Elementary School.

The fire chief said one person was found dead inside the house and that was the only person inside at the time of the fire.

A neighbor told News 12 that he called the police after seeing heavy smoke coming from his neighbor's home. He said he came outside to see the back of the house on fire.

Fire officials say most of the damage is in the rear of the house.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
