The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has announced that parking rates will soon increase at area airports, including Newark Liberty International Airport.
The increased rates in Newark will go into effect on or around Jan. 8, 2017. The daily maximum rate at Newark's closest central terminal lots will increase from $33 to $39 per day. The hourly rate will remain at $8 per hour.
The daily maximum rate in parking lot P4 will increase from $27 to $34. Parking lots 1 and 3 will increase from $24 to $27.
John F. Kennedy International Airport's increased rates will also go into effect on or around Jan. 8, 2017. The daily maximum rate for the Green/Red/Orange lots will increase from $33 to $35. The Blue/Yellow lots will see prices at $39 up from $33.
LaGuardia Airport will see slightly different price increases, which will go into effect Dec. 10, 2016.
The hourly rate will increase from $8 to $10, while the daily maximum rate will increase from $39 to $59.
The Port Authority says that the reason for the increase is to help manage parking demand at the airports. The agency says that the maximum daily parking rate has not changed since 2009 at JFK and Newark airports, and since 2014 at LaGuardia. The hourly rate has not changed since for all three airports, according to the Port Authority.
