Fireworks may have been involved in a police shooting that left two men injured in Jersey City.

Hudson County prosecutors say the shooting occurred around 10:15 p.m. Monday.

They say a police lieutenant and two other city officers were on patrol in the area of the Arlington Gardens complex when "an incident occurred" that resulted in all three officers firing their weapons. But further details were not disclosed.

Preliminary indications suggest fireworks were being used in the area where the shooting occurred. Witnesses said the wounded men were the ones shooting them off.

The prosecutor did not make any mention of police seeing anyone with a weapon.

Neighbors say that 21-year-old Devonte Moore was shot in the leg and remains hospitalized. A 19-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and was released from the hospital.

Some of the neighbors say that the police officers need to answer for what happened.

“You can really tell the difference in between fireworks and real gunshots. We've heard gunshots around here before,” says Luiggie Luna.

A nearby home and vehicle were damaged by the gunfire.

No police officers were injured in the incident. Their names were not released.

The prosecutor's office is leading the investigation into the shooting.
