An NYPD ESU detective was shot Tuesday morning after an hourslong standoff in the Vladeck Houses in Manhattan, officials said during a news conference.
At the time, he was serving a search warrant for illegal guns inside an apartment there.
When they arrived, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch says suspect 35-year-old Edwin Rivera fired gunshots at officers, striking one in their ballistic shield.
After officers repositioned, a decision was made to enter the apartment. That’s when police say a veteran detective was shot in the shoulder.
Rivera, 35, was also shot and both were taken to the hospital. They both have non-life-threatening injuries.
