A 14-year-old boy from Woodland Park was killed in a bicycle crash on Monday, according to police.

Woodland Park Mayor Tracy Kallert identified the teen as Nicola Colangelo.

Police say he was riding a bike in between traffic when he collided with the side of an SUV near Rose Place and McBridge Avenue. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Nicola was a cherished member of our community…known for his vibrant spirit, infectious kindness and remarkable sense of humor. Nicola had an extraordinary ability to bring joy to everyone around him,” Kallert wrote in a statement.

Colangelo was a student at Passaic Valley Regional High School and a member of the football team.

Crisis counselors were at the high school on Tuesday to help any students deal with the loss.

Services for Colangelo will take place Sunday at Santangelo Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be held on Monday morning.
