Northwest New Jersey got hit hardest in the state's first winter storm of the season.
Snow began to fall in the region around 10:30 a.m. and quickly covered the ground. Precipitation varied from snow to rain and sleet throughout the day, creating hazardous road conditions around the state. Police said there were a number of fender-benders in the northwest region, but no serious accidents.
Morristown officials said crews will be on the roads working to improve conditions throughout the night. Motorists are being urged to allow extra time to get to their destinations and to use mass transit, if possible.
More than 100 schools in New Jersey were either closed or had early releases due to the timing of the storm.
