NJ trade school sees enrollment soar amid struggling economy
With unemployment rates at record highs and traditional four-year colleges becoming pricier by the day, more and more students seem to be opting for trade schools.
Lincoln Technical Institute in Mahwah is just one such school that has seen its enrollment numbers skyrocket since the beginning of the recession.
The demand for skilled tradesmen with expertise in areas like automotive and nursing are still in high demand, even in a struggling economy.
School officials at Lincoln Tech say trade schools are an appealing alternative for students. They can take classes only in the areas that interest them, and can avoid taking out hefty student loans.
Administrators at the school also help students write resumes, find jobs and set up interviews. The school tells us that last year, it had a job placement rate of 88 percent.
