The New Jersey State Department of
Labor saw a 25% increase in new unemployment claims this week.
More than 24,000 new unemployment
claims were filed in the Garden State this week.
The number of workers seeking
jobless benefits has now hit more than 1.6 million in the state since the
pandemic caused businesses to close in the spring.
A total of $15.6 billion has been paid to workers in the state
since mid-March.
