A man from Landisville is accused of hitting a 52-year-old woman over the head with a brick on Christmas Day in Buena.
Franklin Township police say Justin Lopez, 33, hit a woman from Mays Landing with a brick and strangled her. It's unclear what led up to the attack, however officials say Lopez and the woman knew each other.
Officials say they were dispatched to the area of North Franklin and W. Arbor Avenue for a report of a woman screaming. They say they found the woman bleeding from the head and disoriented. She was taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland in critical condition with injuries to her head and upper body, according to police.
Lopez was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, strangulation and unlawful possession of a weapon. He was taken to Atlantic County Correctional Facility in Mays Landing pending a detention hearing. On Thursday, Lopez’s charges were upgraded to attempted murder.
The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information should call detectives at 856-694-1415, ext. 209.
