A Clifton daycare owner is asking the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash to come forward after a vehicle slammed into the front of her business, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Surveillance video from Tiniest Footprints Daycare and Preschool shows a car driving onto a sidewalk, running over garbage cans and crashing into the front of the building overnight on Thursday.
“There was garbage everywhere, and quite a few of the windows have been broken,” said owner Lori Cobb.
The daycare, which serves families in Clifton and surrounding communities, was forced to close following the crash. Cobb says the closure left 85 families scrambling to find child care.
“Our families rely on us, not just Clifton families but surrounding towns as well, to be able to provide a safe place for their children, for our working families,” she said.
Clifton police say the driver left the scene and failed to report the crash.
Fortunately, the building was empty at the time of the crash and no one was injured.
“I was shook to my core, to be honest with you. While I’m grateful that no one was hurt, it was disturbing to see,” Cobb said.
As Tiniest Footprints prepares to reopen, Cobb is urging the driver to take responsibility.
“Come forward. We are a staple in the community. We want the person to be held responsible so the proper steps can be taken and we can move forward and resume business,” she said.
Cobb says she is now facing thousands of dollars in repair costs.
Clifton police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the crash or the driver involved to contact the department.
