The Prudential Center was vacated and locked Friday by Newark officials.
The shutdown is due to a failure to provide blue prints updating the building's fire alarm system to code inspectors in a timely fashion, officials say. A temporary certificate of occupancy that the stadium had been operating under expired at midnight.
"What could have prevented it is if the plans were available earlier," says Julien Neals, Newark's city attorney. "Then it wouldn't have gotten to the point in time where the temporary certificate would have expired."
Neals says the fire suppression system in question is working and once the city has blueprints, the Rock will reopen. The documents were reportedly delivered Friday afternoon.
The next scheduled event at the Prudential Center is a charity comedy and casino night scheduled for July 16.
