New Jersey highways were choked with holiday traffic Wednesday, as many travelers opted out of pricey air travel and hit the roads.
"We were hoping to catch an early church service, but we won't be making that," says Rosemary Tiernan, of Bethesda, Maryland.
Many motorists complained of traffic delays as cars inched along on the Garden State Parkway. Tiernan, however, says even the traffic cannot put a damper on her holiday spirit.
"Family's the magnet," she says. "You'll spend a little extra, you'll take a little risk with the weather because you want to spend time with family."
Drivers who intend to head out Christmas Eve are urged to plan for extra travel time and have plenty of patience in store.
