Cleanup efforts are underway in parts of central New Jersey following devastating flooding.

The American Red Cross has set up several distribution centers to help those impacted by the floods.

One center is located on Green Brook Avenue in North Plainfield. Volunteers say there have been so many people stopping by, mainly to get cleanup kits that contain items like mops, bleach, gloves and cleaning solution.

The center is also offering food, water and clothing to victims of the flooding.

Mayor Lawrence LaRonde says that about 60% of the town was impacted by the flooding, which means more than 12,000 people were affected.

“A lot of people are hurting. A lot of people in need. A lot of people frustrated that we can’t do anything about the flood waters,” the mayor said. “It’s something that has tb be dealt with at the state level.”

Other Red Cross centers are located at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, Westfield Road in Scotch Plains and on South Madison Avenue in Dunellen.

The Red Cross will have vans riding around other neighborhoods on Thursday.
