When you travel, do you ever get told you have an accent?
Apparently a "New Jersey accent" is the seventh-most misunderstood accents when traveling abroad, according to
Family Destinations Guide.
Family Destinations Guide polled 3,000 families across the U.S. to see how difficult it is for Americans to communicate effectively when traveling overseas. Family Destinations Guide defines a Jersey accent as a unique blend of other accents and dialects, including New York City English, Philadelphia English and Italian-American English.
More misunderstood than New Jersey residents are those with southern Appalachian, Cajun American, New England and New York accents.
Rhode Island ranks No. 1 for most misunderstood accent with Maine and Alabama ranking at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
New York ranks at No. 4, and Connecticut No. 6.
