City officials in New Brunswick want to make one of the city's major roadways safer for the public.

Livingston Avenue has seen many accidents, including one in 2014 where the city's fire director hit three children. There was a large outcry after that accident from citizens about the traffic conditions on the road.

"They don't have a yield sign for the middle," says resident Laura Garcia. "It used to be two lanes so everybody used to be flying down here."

New Brunswick officials are not studying the possibility of putting Livingston Avenue on a "road diet." It would redesign the road to manage traffic more effectively while also adding bike lanes and better pedestrian walkways.

Livingston Avenue is a county road, so the city would need to work with Middlesex County to make sure the plan for the road can go ahead.

The city is taking public comments on the matter until early September.
