Most people in the Garden State have no idea who some of the candidates are for U.S. Senate.
New Jersey First Lady Tammy Murphy and Rep. Andy Kim have their work cut out for them. A new
Rutgers-Eagleton poll found that most residents are unaware of who they are.
Over two-thirds of New Jerseyans are either unsure or unaware about the candidates at the moment, according to the latest Rutgers-Eagleton Poll. Out of those polled, 41% don’t know who Kim is. And 38% don’t know Murphy - despite being the governor's wife.
For those residents who know both candidates, only 19% are in favor of Kim while 14% are supporting Murphy.
Experts say the numbers prove that both Murphy and Kim need to build some name recognition with the average voter.
Sen. Bob Menendez’s ratings have “taken a nosedive,” according to the poll with 6% of New Jersey voters having a favorable impression of Menendez compared to 69% who have an unfavorable one. Fifteen percent have no opinion and 10% say they don’t know Menendez, the poll says.
In terms of the presidency, the poll shows New Jersey voters aren’t very impressed with their options, with considerable variation by partisanship. About 51% of New Jersey voters have an unfavorable view of President Joe Biden, who is seeking re-election, while 37% have a favorable view. Twelve percent have no opinion, the poll shows. Similarly, 55% disapprove of the job Biden is doing as president, while 39% approve, and 6% are unsure.
Results are from a statewide poll of 974 adults contacted through the probability-based Rutgers-Eagleton/SSRS Garden State Panel from Nov. 3 to Nov. 5.
