The Monmouth County Engineer's Office has closed the Glimmer Glass Bridge along Fisk Avenue between Brielle and Manasquan.
Emergency repairs are needed to fix problems discovered during a routine inspection.
The bridge will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians until at least July 1.
Commissioner director Tom Arnone said in a statement: “I have called for County personnel to have a complete assessment of the Bridge performed so that we can make an informed decision of the totality of the repairs needed. My fellow Commissioners and I do not want to have repairs made now and then find out that more work is needed in a few weeks, months, etc. Since the Bridge is already closed, let’s figure out if more work needs to be done and get it done now. Our goal is to make sure that the Bridge will remain safe when it reopens, while also trying to limit the disruption to traffic this summer."
