More than a dozen vehicles were damaged by fallen wires on Route 138 in Wall Township Monday night.

JCP&L says that a dump truck caught low-hanging communication wires, which caused a chain reaction that brought down other utility poles and electrical wires. The utility company says it happened near East Hurley Pond Road.

About 13 vehicles were damaged, according to Wall Township police.

The damage included broken windshields. One driver was even trapped inside her car with a live wire on top.

News 12 spoke with one driver whose pickup truck was damaged in the incident.

“You can see the streaking on there from the wires. I kind of couldn’t see anything for a second and I could see well enough that I could just get off the roadway,” said Ed Esposito, of Wall Township.

Wall Township police tell News 12 that no one reported seeing a dump truck in the area, so the exact cause remains under investigation.

No serious injuries were reported.
