This Memorial Day was certainly memorable for the friends, and family of New Jersey National Guard troops who arrived home from Iraq Monday.
Approximately 400 members of the 50th Infantry Brigade Combat Team landed home safe and sound at McGuire Air Force Base. They were then taken to Fort Dix to be reunited with loved ones. The soldiers are the first New Jersey National Guard troops to return since deployment to Iraq one year ago.
All returning troops will be kept at Fort Dix for at least a week. During their stay at Fort Dix, the troops will be evaluated and go through transition programs to help them adjust to life after war.
Other New Jersey National Guard members still overseas in Iraq are slated to come home over the next two weeks.
