A massive fire damaged a three-story Bayonne home and displaced 45 people.
Bayonne officials say that the fire started just before 1 p.m. at a home on the 400 block of Kennedy Boulevard. The fire primarily damaged the third floor and roof of the building, but will have to be torn down.
Large plumes of smoke could be seen for miles while crews battled the blaze. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control after three hours.
Officials say that one person was injured in the fire and taken to Bayonne Medical Center for treatment. That person is expected to be OK.
Forty-five people who lived nearby were displaced and will be taken care of by the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross.
Officials say that while crews were at the fire on Kennedy Boulevard, a second fire sparked on the 200 block of Broadway. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and even rescued four kittens from a shed.
The cause of both fires was not immediately known.
