The city of Long Branch has decided to postpone the annual Fourth of July fireworks.
The decision comes after a large crowd gathered at Long Branch’s Pier Village last weekend. That gathering had to be broken up by police. Four people were arrested as a result.
The city issued a statement that said, “Our Public Safety Director has been in contact with state and county law enforcement officials. He has made the decision that this postponement is in the best interest of our residents and businesses.”
The statement continued, “Please note that we have the best intelligence available in terms of crowd control for the Oceanfront area. The safety and security of our residents will always be our first priority.”
The fireworks will be held on a future date.
