Wash, dry and fold – that’s the motto inside the Super Laundromat Center on Kearny Avenue. Now, it is helping launder school uniforms for free for the Kearny Public School Uniform Exchange – an initiative that provides essential uniforms and educational resources at no cost.
"We treat the uniforms as if they're a walk-in customer and they're a paying customer," said Daniel Santos, one of the owners of the Super Laundromat Center. "We want to give back."
Uniforms are donated by students who either grew out of them or graduated from the school district. The organization then hosts distribution days to give them out to those in the community. About 1,500 students have been helped since the initiative was started three years ago by Jenny Paz.
“I know what we're doing here is really important," said Paz.
Uniforms are not the only thing kids need to start the school year. That's why the exchange is also hosting a school supplies fundraiser. The Kearny police department and fire department headquarters on Midland Avenue are drop off locations for supplies.
"If you have the money and you have the ability to provide your children with everything that they need, how much would it cost you to grab a few extra notebooks or pencils?" asked Paz.
All with the hope of starting each student off on the right foot this school year.

The school supplies fundraiser runs through Aug. 25. You can also donate items from their Amazon Wishlist.
