A Keansburg woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for her role in a 2016 crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Prosecutors say the accident happened while Alexandra Mansonet, 51, was texting. She denied the accusation when she took the stand.

Mansonet was convicted of vehicular homicide last fall in the death of 39-year-old Yuwen Wang.

Monmouth County prosecutors say Mansonet rear-ended another car that struck the victim as she was crossing a street in Hazlet. Wang died five days after the incident.

The Asbury Park Press has reported that the defendant apologized Friday to Wang's family.

An attorney for Mansonet indicated that she plans to appeal the decision.
