There's a
spot just north of Morristown and Route 202 called the Speedwell Ironworks -
which was abuzz on Jan. 6, 1838 due to the invention of the telegraph.
Samuel
Morse held the first demonstration of the telegraph in a factory building in
Morris County, which is now a
national historic landmark.
Morse wrapped two miles of telegraph wire inside building to
show how the signal could travel.
He's also
the creator of Morse code.
