Jersey Proud: Telegraph invented in Morris County factory building

There's a spot just north of Morristown and Route 202 called the Speedwell Ironworks - which was abuzz on Jan. 6, 1838 due to the invention of the telegraph.

There's a spot just north of Morristown and Route 202 called the Speedwell Ironworks - which was abuzz on Jan. 6, 1838 due to the invention of the telegraph.
Samuel Morse held the first demonstration of the telegraph in a factory building in Morris County, which is now a national historic landmark.
Morse wrapped two miles of telegraph wire inside building to show how the signal could travel.
He's also the creator of Morse code.
