An eighth grader from Brick Township is doing her part to make sure fallen first responders are remembered nationwide.

Elizabeth Police Sgt. Michael Kurinzi died of cancer last month, which he contracted from working at ground zero after the Sept. 11 attacks.

Eighth grader Moran Blann ran a mile in the rain Thursday night in Kurinzi’s honor. Blann is part of a national program called Running 4 Heroes that honors first responders who died in the line of duty.

The kids have now done nearly 1,700 of these runs. This was Blann’s 58th run.
