Fireworks once again lit up the sky in Jersey City Fourth of July Sunday after the pandemic forced the cancellation of Independence Day celebrations last year.
The scene was set along the Hudson River for Jersey City's 50 Stars Fire Show, which was somewhat of a comeback show.
Crowds from all over the Garden State gathered to catch the 9:30 p.m. show. They staked out prime real estate to ensure they got the best view of the night sky spectacular.
While spectators waited for the show to start, there was plenty to see and do, and of course, eat. The city of Jersey City partnered with Jersey City Night Market to promote small businesses and shopping.
Spectators said the celebration presented an opportunity to spend the day with family, feeling a little bit back to normal.
"We're just here with my family, we just came to spend some time, some good time with family and see if we can watch the fireworks," said Pablo Baiza, of Bayonne.
"We're just out with the family just trying to get a look and maybe tonight get some fireworks in if we can see it from here," said Emilio Crudo, of Matawan.
News 12 was told that the company tapped to put on the fireworks, "Fireworks by Grucci," is the holder of the of the Guinness World Record for the "Largest Fireworks Display" ever recorded.
