A Brooklyn woman says the constant leaking and mold in the East New York apartment she’s been dealing with for years is impacting her family’s quality of life.
"It's very difficult at times. It makes you feel very depressed and it's overwhelming,” Elloyine Dove tells News 12.
Dove says she lives with her two children and has to use an umbrella to get out of the shower and brush her teeth.
She says she covers her furniture with plastic so it won’t get ruined as it has in the past.
"You just watch everything soak, mattress soak, everything soak, linen soak, and then you have to replace it,” said Dove.
She says leaking issues in her apartment date back to 2014 when it got so bad her ceiling collapsed.
Dove says she’s worried the leaking will get so bad it’ll happen again. "It's going to get worse and I'm afraid that I could be laying in the bed sleeping and the whole ceiling collapse on myself and one of the kids, because I know -- I live it before and I see how it gets,” said Dove.
Dove says when she calls the management company Precise Management to file a complaint, an inspector comes out to look at her apartment, but the issue is never resolved.
"I call 311, they send over the request to HPD Precise Management. When you call Precise Management it's like, ‘Oh someone is going to come out and take care of it.’ Nothing. It's just on and on, nothing. Just a whole bunch of nothing,” said Dove.
The city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development says violations have been issued and that action will be taken if the owner fails to maintain safe and secure housing.
Dove is now hoping a permanent fix comes soon, so her family can live peacefully once again.
News 12 reached out to Precise Management and hasn’t heard back yet.
