WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
New Jersey is in for a stretch of pleasant weather across the Northeast as high pressure holds firm through the weekend.
Rain chances are slim to none, and while easterly winds will help keep the heat in check, that classic summer humidity isn’t going anywhere.
Saturday was a great start to this weekend as it was mostly sunny. Despite the few spots that saw a brief shower, it was typical summer day with highs landing in the mid-80s.
Winds start to shift a bit more southwesterly on Sunday, pulling in warmer air from the Carolinas. That means temperaturess will climb back into the upper 80s, and some spots might even flirt with the 90s. Keep the umbrella handy as well, there will be a few isolated showers and thunderstorms heading into the afternoon.
Hurricane Erin has taken a serious leap in strength and is a powerful Category 5 hurricane as of Saturday night. It will cruise westward across the Atlantic, but it’s expected to make a sharp turn northward along the East Coast early next week. The good news? Erin isn’t expected to make landfall or pose a direct threat to any coastal towns or cities. However, the indirect impacts will definitely be felt, especially at the shoreline. The ocean is going to get rough, and conditions could start deteriorating as early as Tuesday night. Those who have beach plans next week, especially ones that involve swimming, might want to reconsider. Local beaches could close for swimming due to dangerous surf and rip currents.
