A Lakewood woman fought off and killed a fox that attacked her while she sat on her front doorstep.
Sheila Pringle now sports several bite marks and scratches from the fox that attacked her Sunday morning. She says that she was outside having a cup of coffee when she felt something biting her feet.
“Sharp, little bites. He wouldn’t let me go,” she says.
Pringle says that she tried to run inside, but fell down. She says that the fox was still biting her feet. She grabbed a rock and fought back.
“And all I did was bang, bang, bang and I felt him release me,” she says.
After striking the fatal blows, Pringle was taken to the hospital.
“I went to the emergency room. Got about four shots - still have to go get four more,” she says.
Pringle says that the attack happened in front of her 3-year-old grandson who was also outside.
“I had to think about my grandson. He was yelling and screaming,” she says.
Pringle's apartment building is located next to an unfenced wooded area. She says she has never seen a fox near the apartment before. She says that the ordeal has left her traumatized.
"There's a lot of kids here, I don't want this to happen to anybody,” says Pringle.
Lakewood police say the deceased fox is being tested for rabies.
