“At work, he is not my dad and I am not his daughter, we keep it really professional at work,” says Xanilyn Red.
“But I always give her coffee at midnight, that's my job to be her dad,” says Valentine Red.
His name is Valentine Red, and he's a respiratory therapist. His daughter is Xanilyn Red, and she's an intensive care nurse.
“Seeing him run into patient rooms that are crashing, a part of you is I know he's saving lives and is taking care of the people that need it, but there's also sobering news about health care professionals becoming patients,” says Xanilyn.

News 12 spoke to them through FaceTime, and asked them to share an experience where they wound up working an emergency together.
"There has been multiple times when me and him have both responded to the same code blue for a patient, and it's like you put on your PPE on and you don't really look at everyone else who is responding or you just make sure that you are protected and when I was doing compressions on a patient and I looked up I saw him at the head of the bed, on the bed later, and I was just like, ‘oh my God you're in here too,’” says Xanilyn. “I guess we're in it together."
Valentine has been a respiratory therapist at Saint Peter's for 20 years. His wife is also a dialysis nurse at a different hospital.
