After 50 years of decay, the Roebling building along Mott Street started to collapse on itself, which has led to the start of demolition this week.

It was from this building and others like it within the complex that John Roebling manufactured the steel wire rope as it would be called, that he and his son, Washington Roebling, would use to hold up the Brooklyn Bridge.

Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora had hoped to see the building refurbished.

“The bones are there the steel is there but unfortunately, everything else has been destabilized over the years.

"We had a redevelopment plan in 2019, but council voted it down," said Mayor Gusciora.

The mayor is now looking to salvage the stars within the brick which were used to stabilize the building.

The entire building should be demolished in a few weeks.

Once the land is cleared there city will look to redevelop with mixed use and market rate housing.
