A house fire in Secaucus Friday morning left one firefighter injured.

The fire chief told News 12 New Jersey that the fire broke out around 8 a.m. at a home on Valley Court.

The home is significantly damaged, as the ceiling and roof fell in. The ceiling collapsed on a couple of firefighters, but did not cause any injuries.

There was heavy fire and smoke when they arrived. Responders were able to get everyone out safely.

There was a large fire and police presence on the scene, with mutual aid from surrounding areas

A neighbor told News 12 that the homeowners, both in their 80s, and their daughter were home at the time.

The chief said the homeowners noticed the fire and heard a crack in the ceiling in the attic.

"Took us about an hour to get it under control, heavy damage, heavy fire damage, ceiling collapse, a lot of water damage," said Chief Larry Marciano, of the Secaucus Fire Department.

The fire chief tells News 12 that the firefighter has been released from the hospital with a back injury and is expected to be OK.

Fire officials were worried about the fire in the neighborhood.

"Our main concern was that it didn't spread on to two other buildings, we evacuated both sides, and the guys did a good job, put it out pretty fast," said Marciano.

The chief said cause of the fire is not known at this time.
