A fire destroyed a popular Greek restaurant early Thursday morning in Englewood Cliffs.
Flames broke out at Lefkes Greek restaurant on Sylvan Avenue just before 5 a.m., quickly spreading through the building.
Officials say the fire may have started in the basement before moving into the walls, making it difficult for crews to contain.
Firefighters spent hours battling the blaze as flames spread through hidden spaces inside the structure.
Drone 12 showed smoke and fire moving across much of the building.
Authorities say the building's age and multiple renovations may have contributed to the fire's spread.
Crews used saws and other tools to cut through walls and reach flames hidden deep inside the structure. "That's what makes it so difficult," officials said, pointing to fire trapped within walls and partitions.
Despite the heavy damage, no injuries were reported.
Officials say the loss is significant for the local community, especially given the area's large Greek population.
"This is a loss, not just to the Greek community, but to the whole community," said Bergen County Executive James Tedesco.
