Some Holmdel police officers became firefighters Wednesday when they utilized a garden hose to put out a house fire.
The officers were called to 19 Burgundy Drive just before 8 a.m. after the family reported a fire in the back of their house. The officers got there before the fire department and grabbed hoses from the house and a neighbor to douse the flames.
The fire department arrived shortly after and brought the fire under control.
The back of the house was damaged, but officials believe the family will be able to stay in the home.
It is believed that the fire started in some mulch in the backyard, but the official cause is under investigation.
No one was hurt in the fire.
